Kelissa Ponce is an experienced Social Worker and mental health advocate with over 30 years of experience serving students, families, and communities in the educational setting. She works as an 8th Grade Social Worker at Drauden Point Middle School, where she provides services to all students and their families, developing and implementing individualized plans for specialized instruction, support, and related services for students with special education needs. She has also recently become involved with Deaf Welcome Studios in Aurora, Illinois—a passion she pursued after gaining guardianship of her adult disabled brother in 2023.
Prior to becoming a Social Worker, Kelissa served in multiple educational roles—including Dean’s Assistant, Paraprofessional, and Teacher’s Assistant—which allowed her to build strong relationships with students and gain a comprehensive understanding of the school environment. She also co-founded two girls’ mentoring programs, Sugar and Spice and Today’s Confident Girl, both designed to empower young women through mentorship, self-awareness, and personal growth.
As a public speaker, Kelissa has presented on a variety of mental health topics, including the effects of stress on the body, strategies for navigating and reducing stress, and effective communication techniques for parents and families. She also focuses on the concept of “positive presence,” teaching individuals how to elevate the energy of a room and foster a calm, empowering atmosphere rather than being influenced by negativity.
While Kelissa enjoys working with individuals of all ages, she has found particular fulfillment and success in helping middle school students build emotional awareness, resilience, and confidence during this pivotal developmental stage.
Outside of her professional career, Kelissa is dedicated to personal wellness and family. Her daily routine includes morning workouts and regular gym sessions, with Saturdays devoted to a well-rounded fitness practice. She treasures time spent with her two adult children, her daughter-in-law, and her beloved grandchildren—whom she affectionately calls her “second set.” The family shares a tradition of vacationing together each summer. A creative writer, engaging speaker, and skilled cake baker, Kelissa brings authenticity, compassion, and creativity to every aspect of her personal and professional life.
